This is a contest entry for Animal--Photography's anti-animal cruelty poster contest.

The Story:
This topic was very near to my heart, which is why I jumped at the idea of making a poster for this contest. The image used for the poster is a photograph I took of my cat, Tabitha. Tabitha spent the first year of her life owned by a couple who would leave her on her own for days at a time, and when they were around she would be beaten. A neighbor had some sort of idea that something was going on and called the police - which was when they found Tabitha - along with her siblings and mother. Tabitha and one other sibling were the only ones to survive in the end, most were too sick or malnourished to survive. My family adopted Tabitha in hopes we could give her a good, long, healthy life. She has now been apart of our family for two years and while she has grown content in her new life the signs of abuse are still there. There are times that if anyone tries to pet her she gets scared and runs away. She guards her food since she is so used to having to fight for the little food she was given as a kitten. Strangers and new situations leave her terrified and it takes her an overly long time to adapt to anything. The abuse may have stopped but the pain obviously lives on.
Animal abuse is so much more then a few cuts, or broken bones - it destroys the most beautiful thing this world has to offer, the heart and love of an animal.
